The Adamson University Soaring Falcons improved to second seed early in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 79 Seniors’ Basketball Tournament with a 64-51 victory over National University (NU) on Wednesday, September 21, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
The Adamson Soaring Falcons currently have a 3-1 winning streak, a half-a-game behind leaders De La Salle Green Archers, while the NU Bulldogs dipped to 2-2.
Adamson rookie Sean Manganti drained a long jumper with 45.5 seconds time remaining on the clock to give the Soaring Falcons a comfortable 59-51 lead in the middle of the their 16-4 run to finish the contest.
The Adamson head coach Franz Pumaren said that he is finally seeing signs of development from his squad, most especially when the Soaring Falcons went on their game-winning campaign.
“Slowly we’re showing a bit of maturity and character,” said coach Pumaren. “Coming to this game people will think of us as an [Jerrick] Ahanmisi, [Rob] Manalang, and Papi Sarr team but the bench contributed really well,” he added.
Adamson put up a total of 34 bench points, which is significantly four more than what its starting core players produced.
PapiSarr led team by contributing 13 points and 17 boards while Frederick Tungcab came off the bench to add another 11 points.
Pumaren selected backup center Kristian Bernardo as a pivotal member of the Falcons’ late run after scoring all seven of his points in the fourth quarter of the running game.
According to Pumaren, Kristian Bernardo, who scored seven points, made him felt really proud as he was the game-changer in the floor.
Meanwhile, Alfred Aroga led the National University Bulldogs with a total of 17 points and 13 rebounds. — Cetureon.com
