The New England Patriots are amongst several National Football League (NFL) teams kicking off the offseason training activities on Monday. Traditionally the organizations has outstanding attendance at these workouts.
The New England Patriots veteran star quarterback Tom Brady is expected to be at the facility on Tuesday. The five-time Super Bowl champion is returning to town Monday after a family vacation.
The star quarterback Tom Brady is skipping the first day of New England Patriots’ voluntary offseason workouts, and the valuable chemistry built during this time that can never be replaced is clearly in peril.
The 12-time Pro Bowler Tom Brady will also not attend Wednesday’s call visit to the White House with the rest of the New England Patriots 2016 roster, the quarterback announced.
“Thank you to the President for hosting this honorary celebration and for supporting our team for as long as I can remember,” Tom Brady said in a statement. “In light of some recent developments, I am unable to attend today’s ceremony, as I am attending to some personal family matters,” he added.
Brady’s mother has been battling cancer since before the Super Bowl LI. As of Sunday, Tom Brady had reportedly been expected to attend the said festivities. The Wednesday’s ceremony at White House in Washington is expected to go on as planned, despite the news that the former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez hung himself in prison.
Six of Brady’s teammates have also said that they will not be attending the Wednesday’s ceremony in White House due to concerns about President Donald Trump. Tom Brady is a longtime friend of Trump’s.
Tom Brady also did not attend the New England Patriots’ visit to the White House in 2015 to celebrate their Super Bowl XLIX winning.
The 27-year-old cornerback Malcolm Butler, meanwhile, is heading back up to New England later this week after celebrating a family birthday.
Malcolm Butler has not yet signed his first-round restricted free agent tender with the New England Patriots, which would pay him $3.91 million for the 2017 NFL season. with that being said, this leads to some uncertainty about Butler future there, particularly after they spent a pile of money on cornerback Stephon Gilmore. The restricted free agent cornerback has the ability to discuss offer sheets with other professional American football franchises, but the deadline for him to sign elsewhere will be on April 21.
Should Malcolm Butler accept an offer sheet from another organizations, the New England Patriots would have the opportunity to match it. Should the Patriots decline to match, the defending Super Bowl champion would receive a first-round pick compensation from Malcolm Butler’s new team.
