In line with the technology firm’s commitment to improve its data services, the Ayala-led mobile telecommunication company Globe Telecom recently rolled out in 150 sites the 700 megahertz (MHz) band. Most of the 150 sites are in Metro Manila.

Globe Telecom said it is fast-tracking the roll-out of LTE (Long Term Evolution) services nationwide using the 700 MHz frequency.

Globe Telecom senior vice president for Program Governance, Network Technical Group, Joel Agustin said:

“We are confident that more and more of our customers will experience improved services as adoption of LTE-capable devices increases and as we continue to deploy LTE 700 in more sites. This is consistent with our strategy of continuously improving internet services using the previously idle 700 MHz spectrum that the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) now allows us to co-use.”

Agustin explained that the 4G LTE 700 sites cover major business districts and highly-urbanized areas as well as populated locations in the Philippines. He also stressed out that their customers using LTE 700 devices are steadily increasing in certain areas.

Agustin also indicated that in Quezon City, a major city in the Metro Manila, the LTE 700 technology now covers a majority portion of the area after the the aforementioned LTE 700 sites activated by the firm increased four times from the initial roll-out of 11 sites.

Globe Telecom also plans to activate more than 500 LTE 700 cell sites across the archipelago by the end of the year and majority of these sites will be located in NCR. It will enable the company to deliver close to 100 percent coverage of LTE 700 for the entire Metro Manila.

Globe Telecom also claimed that it is maximizing the use of the 700 MHz band in fulfillment of its commitment in the co-use agreement with BellTel, following the sellout of San Miguel’s telecommunication and Internet assets.

The company is committed to deploy about 4,500 multiband, multimode software defined radio base station equipment to 95 percent of total municipalities and cities in the Philippines.
